about me
My name is Scott Safford, and I’m running for the Fort Myers Beach Town Council. I’ve lived part-time on Fort Myers Beach since 2007 and became a full-time resident in 2012. This community is my home, and I am deeply committed to helping it thrive, especially in the wake of Hurricane Ian. I believe we have the opportunity to rebuild together, creating a perfect place to live, work, and play, all while preserving the funky, laid-back vibe that makes our town so unique.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Dallas in 1986 and went on to obtain my MBA in International Finance from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1987. Over the years, I’ve worked as the CFO of Sea Gypsy Vacation Rentals and was previously the owner of the Sea Gypsy Inn. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the local business environment, and I’m passionate about supporting the recovery and growth of our small businesses.
My dedication to Fort Myers Beach doesn’t stop at my professional life. I was appointed to the Fort Myers Beach Town Council in February of 2024, and before that, I served for eight years on the Local Planning Agency (LPA) from 2016 to 2024. I’m also proud to be a member of the Leadership Lee Class of 2024 and an active member of our Chamber of Commerce. Through these roles, I’ve gained valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our community, and I’m ready to bring that experience to the Town Council.
I am driven by a deep commitment to our community. I believe our future depends on a strong infrastructure, well-funded reserves, and clear priorities. My top priorities are getting our small businesses back on their feet as quickly as possible, ensuring public safety, and maintaining clean water. I also want to help rewrite our Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Codes to ensure they reflect our community’s needs and values. Additionally, I’m eager to help craft a 10-year strategic plan that will guide our town’s growth and development in the years to come.
